EU ABETS DIALOGUE ON ATTORNEY-CLIENT PRIVILEGE IN ALMATY 1 June 2017

On 22 May 2017, the EU-Central Asia Rule of Law Platform organised a round table “On the Attorney-Client privilege” (ACP), in cooperation with the Almaty and Paris Bars. Co-chaired by Mr Daniyar Kanafin and Ms Laurence Kiffer, the round-table pursued the cooperation between the Almaty and Paris Bars initiated with the signing of a Partnership Agreement in October 2014, under the auspices of the Rule of Law Platform.

IN KHUJAND, KURGAN TYUBE AND DUSHANBE: EU RULE OF LAW PLATFORM PROMOTES BEST ENFORCEMENT PRACTICES 31 May 2017

During the week from 24-28 April 2017, three round-tables “on the status and role of judicial officers” were jointly organised by the EU-Central Asia Rule of Law Platform and the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Tajikistan. These round-tables aimed at exploring best European practices in the field of enforcement, and provide training to 168 Tajik judicial officers, i.e . two thirds of members of the country’s profession.

EUROPEAN – CENTRAL ASIAN WORKING GROUP MEETS IN TASHKENT TO ENVISAGE NEW INVESTOR-STATE DISPUTE SETTLEMENT RULES 26 May 2017

The EU – Central Asia Rule of Law Platform jointly organised with the Ministry of Justice of Uzbekistan a regional seminar on “States and international arbitration”, in Tashkent, on 19 May 2017.

The seminar was attended by 80, including representatives of the Ministries of Justice of Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic and Uzbekistan, and other ministries and state agencies of Uzbekistan, arbitrators, lawyers and academics.

RULE OF LAW PLATFORM GATHERS CENTRAL ASIAN AND EUROPEAN STAKEHOLDERS IN ASTANA 10 April 2017

Under the auspices of the EU-Central Asia Rule of Law Platform, the European Union held a Senior Expert Meeting in Astana, on 27 March 2017. Led by senior representatives of the European Commission and the European External Action Service, the meeting gathered senior experts from Central Asia and from the European Union who reviewed the achievements of the EU-Central Asia Rule of Law Initiative and considered strategic priorities in the area of legal and judicial reform in support of Central Asia’s economic development.
