The European Union backs the Kyrgyz Bar’s strategy to protect lawyers’ rights and increase ethical standards 29 June 2017

On 30 June 2017, Osh will host a round table «On the protection of lawyers’ rights and ethical standards of the legal profession», organised by the EU-Central Asia Rule of Law Platform, in cooperation with the Kyrgyz and the Paris Bars.

The objective of the round-table is to provide exposure to best European practices in the area of protection of the rights of lawyers and ethical standards and to propose related recommendations aimed both at lawyers themselves and at decision makers, and the public in general. The round-table would therefore contribute to reinforcing the independence of lawyers and to strengthening the rule of law in the Kyrgyz Republic. Experts from France, Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan and the Kyrgyz Republic will engage in a dialogue and will exchange information on the laws and practices of their countries, with emphasis of relevant case law of the European Court of Human Rights.

The European Union abets dialogue on the Attorney-Client Privilege in Almaty 19 May 2017

ALMATY – On 22 May 2017, Almaty will host a round table «On the Attorney-Client privilege», organised by the EU-Central Asia Rule of Law Platform, in cooperation with the Almaty and Paris Bars.

The objective of the round-table is to provide exposure to best European practices in the area of defense rights and to propose recommendations for guaranteeing the independence of lawyers and the effective defense of their clients, contributing to strengthening rule of law in Kazakhstan.

The European Union holds a regional seminar on “States and International Arbitration” for Central Asian Specialists 18 May 2017

TASHKENT – In the framework of the Rule of Law Initiative of the European Union for Central Asia, a seminar on international arbitration will take place in Tashkent on 19 May 2017, with support from the European Union and the Ministry of Justice of Uzbekistan.

The objective of the seminar is to create a dialogue and exchange of experience among members of the Central Asian and European communities of arbitrators, and to share advanced European expertise about the institutions and procedures of international arbitration in particular, with the objective of securing cross-border investment and facilitating the resolution of economic disputes opposing mainly Central Asian States or State-owned companies and international investors.

Tajik judicial officers learn about best European practices on enforcement 26 April 2017

DUSHANBE – On 28 April a “round table on the status and role of judicial officers”  will be organised by the EU-Central Asia Rule of Law Platform and chaired by the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Tajikistan. This training aims at exploring best European practices in the field of enforcement, and provide training to over 150 Tajik judicial officers. The event will follow two similar round tables in Khujand and Kurgan Tube on 26 and 27 April.
